How to Make an 84-Rated Squad in EA FC — The Cheapest Way

By FC Helper · Published July 23, 2026

Rating SBCs — 82, 83, 84, 85+ squads — are the backbone of almost every big SBC in EA FC. If you overpay for them, you overpay constantly. The trick is knowing which slots deserve your coins and which ones your own club can already fill.

You do not need eleven 84s to submit an 84-rated squad. A couple of high-rated cards you were never going to use can carry a tail of 81s and 82s, and those cheap cards cost a fraction of what an 84 does — which is where the savings come from.

The cheap-squad recipe

  1. Start with what you own. Untradeable duplicates and storage fodder are free rating. Check your club, storage, and unassigned pile before touching the market.
  2. Anchor with your highest spare cards. One 86–88 you'll never use is worth more inside a rating SBC than rotting in your club.
  3. Fill the tail with the cheapest eligible ratings. Once your anchors are set, the remaining slots want the lowest ratings that still reach your target — usually the 81s and 82s sitting at the price floor.
  4. Ignore chemistry unless the SBC demands it. Pure rating SBCs usually have no chemistry requirement — position and links don't matter, so don't pay extra for them.

Why doing this by hand is slow

Doing this by hand means comparing option after option against whatever happens to be sitting in your club, for every single squad. That's exactly the part worth automating. FC Helper reads the SBC requirements, checks your club (including storage and duplicates), and fills the squad with the cheapest valid players in one click — anchors, tail, and all. The free tier covers 50 solves a day, which is more than a daily grind needs.

If your club genuinely can't cover the squad, solve with market sourcing enabled: the solver tops up only the missing slots with the cheapest eligible market cards instead of buying all eleven.

What the challenge is actually asking for

Rating is only ever one of several conditions. EA describes challenge requirements as:

"a mix of Player Quality, Squad Chemistry and Rating, Nationalities, Leagues, Clubs, and more"

That is why chasing the rating alone tends to cost more than it needs to. A squad built to hit 84 and nothing else will often fail on chemistry or a league minimum, and the cards bought to fix that afterwards are the expensive ones.

On the rules themselves: the relevant wording lives in section 7.C of the EA User Agreement, which defines an "Unauthorized Third-Party Program" as one "that EA believes (i) enables or facilitates cheating of any type". We break down what that means in practice in our guide to solver ban risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many 84-rated players do you need for an 84-rated squad?

Potentially just one — or none. A few 85–87 anchors can carry a tail of 81s and 82s to an 84 overall, so the squad you need is usually far cheaper than eleven 84s.

Do player positions matter in rating SBCs?

Players must fill the formation's slots, but for pure rating requirements the overall rating is what counts — chemistry usually isn't required, so out-of-position cards are fine unless the challenge explicitly demands chemistry.

Should I buy 84s when they're at the price floor?

Sometimes — around big promos the gap between 82s and 84s narrows, and the cheapest distribution changes. Check current prices before assuming low-rated fodder plus anchors is cheapest; occasionally a flat squad briefly wins.
