How to Solve SBCs Without Buying Fodder

By FC Helper · Published July 23, 2026

Every coin you spend on fodder is a coin that doesn't go into your team. Most players buy far more fodder than they need — not because their club is empty, but because manually finding the right combination of owned cards is tedious. Here's how to squeeze the maximum SBC progress out of what you already have.

1. Know where your fodder hides

Your usable inventory is bigger than your club list. Eligible cards live in four places:

Before any solve, ask: is this squad possible from those four pools? Far more often than you'd think, the answer is yes.

2. Spend duplicates first, always

An untradeable duplicate has exactly one use: SBC fodder. It should always be consumed before a unique card of the same rating. When you review any squad before submitting, swap unique cards out for dupes where ratings match — that's free progress. (FC Helper does this ordering automatically: duplicates and untradeables are preferred before anything else is considered.)

3. Let high cards carry, don't chase flat ratings

Squad rating in EA FC rewards cards above the squad average disproportionately — the full mechanics are here. The practical version: your spare 86 can lift three 81s into an 84 squad. Solving "club-first" means using those spare high cards as anchors instead of selling them for less than they save you.

4. Protect what you actually play with

The risk of aggressive club-solving is feeding a card you use. Two habits prevent it:

5. When the market is genuinely unavoidable

Some SBCs demand what your club doesn't have — a specific league, an 87+ card, a nation you never packed. Even then, buy the gap, not the squad: solve club-first, and only fill the missing slots from the market. A club+market solve that buys two cards beats a market solve that buys eleven.

The routine that keeps you fodder-independent

  1. Open your daily packs and leave dupes unassigned or in storage.
  2. Run daily SBCs club-first — they're designed to be completable with common fodder.
  3. Once or twice a week, put spare high-rated untradeables into rating SBCs before your club overflows.
  4. Only shop when a solve tells you exactly which slots are missing.
